I did have a recent incident with a bus, in a bus lane, which the driver seemed to think I should not have been in as there is a (useless) cycle path on the footpath. The bus came up behind me, matching my speed and overlapped my back wheel and forced me into the kerb. Another bus overtook both of us, blaring his horn, at me I assumed. I tried to bunny hop onto the path and fell over, forcing the bus to stop. The driver opened the door, and shouted out for me to get "outta the fcuking bus lane", with a bus full of passengers. I managed to resist the impulse to get onto the bus, and instead started videoing him on the phone. I told him to move on, and that I would report the incident to the Garda and Dublin Bus.I passed the same bus later on in Dorset St and took a photo of the driver and reg. I called Dublin Bus to report the incident at about 10 that morning and said I would be reporting it to the police on the way home, as I would have to drop into the station to submit a written complaint. At lunch time I got a call for a senior manager from Dublin Bus to inform me that another Dublin Bus driver had been travelling behind the bus and had witnessed and radioed the incident. The bus driver had been immediately removed from duties pending an inquiry. The following week I got a call form the Garda station where I had lodged to complaint, as they had a call from Dublin Bus.The upshot of the call was that the driver had been re-assigned, and if I did not withdraw the complaint, the Guards would have no option but to press charges and if convicted the driver would be dis-missed, as the Guards said the video evidence from the bus forward facing cameras and the following bus, clearly showed the driver attempting to intimidate me off the road. As I had not actually been hit by the bus, they figured it was a good result for everyone. I was asked did I really want a married man with young children to lose his job.I called up to the Garda station last week to withdraw my complaint. The Dublin Bus representative give an undertaking to ensure that all Dublin bus staff were fully aware that cyclists were entitled to share the bus lane and that the laws regarding mandatory use of cycle tracks had been changed.
